A southern California for-profit housing company is getting ready to build another apartment complex for seniors in Fresno. AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc., which uses federal tax credits to help finance its housing projects, and the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Fresno broke ground Dec. 30 on a 3.4-acre site on Ventura Avenue and Eighth Street in southeast Fresno.
The company plans to build 60 to 90 affordable senior housing units and between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet of retail space on the vacant lot. AMCAL has built several apartment complexes in the Valley. It built Sandstone, a 69- unit complex at Jensen and Elm avenues, Villa Esperanza in Avenal and Villa Escondido in Orange Cove.
The company is building the 81-unit Cordova apartments in Selma and finishing up the Summer Hill Place apartments in southwest Fresno.
