LEED GOLD Planned for AMCAL’s Mission Apartments, San Diego

( October 12, 2012 — AMCAL Multi-Housing, one of California’s leading builders of workforce and affordable housing, recently announced plans for the Mission Apartments, in San Diego to strive for LEED (Platinum). The transit-oriented development, located directly adjacent to the Washington Street Trolley Station, with 85 units of affordable workforce housing. The project, striving for LEED Platinum will incorporate a number of air quality measures that will improve overall air quality for residents and the surrounding communities. This would include carbon monoxide monitors in each of the units. Also air filters that take out pollutants from air flow, Low-VOC interior paint, CRI Green-label low-VOC carpeting and pad and low-VOC adhesives. The development will exceed Title 24 energy standards by 28.9%. This high-energy efficient building is an excellent model and asset for the community.

Floor plans of two and three bedrooms range in size from approximately 748 square feet to 1,182 square feet, respectively. The rental units will be 100% affordable to households earning between 50% and 60% of the Area Median Income. On site amenities will include a community room with offices, a kitchen, computer room, elevators, tot-lots/play areas, outdoor seating, and planters. Mission Apartments will provide high quality affordable housing with modern amenities in an urban location. The 2 and 3 bedroom apartments will offer contemporary living for residents with balconies overlooking the courtyard, private storage space, dedicated bicycle parking and modern kitchens and bathrooms.

To provide the most convenient living environment for families, all kitchens have garbage disposals, dishwashers and other amenities. The appliances will be energy-efficient (Energy Star) models to further reduce costs for residents. The building is served with a large courtyard with barbeque areas and open space with seating areas for residents. Residents will also have an on-site community room with a large space for educational and social services programs along with a kitchenette and lounge area.
