Project Description

The Village is state-of-the-art, purpose-built student housing complex being developed for students of nearby Humboldt State University (HSU) – only 0.5 miles away. The project, being built to LEED Silver standards, will be Arcata’s first off-campus student housing community. It is planned both physically and operationally to provide a healthy, safe and mentoring environment for students attending HSU.

The student-only, housing community with 240 units and 800 beds will include four, four-story buildings, each with an interior courtyard for socializing and studying. The gated and access-controlled community aims to provide students living off-campus with an opportunity to live as if they had an inclusive on-campus experience.

Students will share a common kitchen and living room and washer/dryer in two-, three-, and four-bedroom housing “suites.” Each bedroom will have its own bathroom and will be lockable for privacy and security.

Academic features include fully equipped computer lab, group study rooms and a presentation room.

The Village will include the construction of an approximately 7,500- to 15,000-square-foot clubhouse building that will house a recreation center, a fitness center, basketball and volleyball courts, and a pool. Outdoor promenade areas between the buildings will provide fresh air for students moving within the community.

Surface parking will be provided for 369 cars; some will have EV-charging stations and some will be reserved for clean-air vehicles. Surface parking for motorcycles and bicycles will also be provided throughout the community. Shuttle service will enable students to travel to campus as well as throughout the community during school hours, and will provide service to local community, retail, recreational, and entertainment venues in the evenings and on weekends.

Security features will include security lighting in exterior areas and state-of-the-art life safety systems.

On-site management will be available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, including property employees and resident assistants in each building. Security will be provided by a third party security company.
