Somis Ranch Farmworker Community
The Somis Ranch Farmworker Community is an affordable multi-family apartment complex in the Somis community of the County of Ventura. The new 11.4-acre community consists of 200 apartments set aside for farmworker households who live and work in the area with incomes at 30, 40, 50 and 60 percent of the area median income (AMI). Construction of phase 1 was completed by spring of 2024. The second phase was completed in 2025.
The development consists of 15 two- and three-story residential buildings with a unit mix of 50 one-bedroom, 540-square feet apartments; 98 two-bedroom 770 square feet apartments; and 50 three-bedroom 1,046-square fee apartments; two additional two-bedroom apartments will be designated for on-site managers. An additional building on site houses the complex’s community center.
Apartment amenities include central heating/cooling, blinds, carpet, storage closet, coat closet, patio/balcony, refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, disposal, and washer/dryer hookups. Site amenities include a community building, picnic area, playground, basketball court, on-site manager, laundry rooms, computer room, business center, courtesy patrol, surveillance cameras, and 360 total parking spaces.
The community is within walking distance to a high school and library, and within close proximity to shopping and various services.
Somis Ranch Farmworker Community was designed to foster a sense of community among residents. To bring residents together, a centrally located community center houses the full-time social services coordinator. The community building serves as a gathering place for events and on-site services. The service coordinator coordinates with tenants to determine the appropriate menu of social services to include instructor-led adult educational, health and wellness or skill-building classes, and an after-school program for school-age children.
